Senior Consultant in Critical Care Medicine and Clinical Researcher
Bharath Kumar Tirupakuzhi Vijayaraghavan is a clinician–researcher in critical care medicine, currently serving as a Senior Consultant at the Department of Critical Care Medicine, Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, and as a Clinical Fellow at the Centre for Inflammation Research, University of Edinburgh. He is also an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at The George Institute for Global Health, New Delhi.
His research is centred on improving outcomes from critical illness, with a strong emphasis on investigator-initiated clinical trials, pragmatic study designs, and registry-enabled research. He has led and contributed to large-scale collaborative research initiatives, including leading a cloud-based intensive care registry in India with over 120,000 patient encounters across multiple centres. His work reflects a commitment to generating high-quality, actionable evidence that is both methodologically rigorous and locally relevant.
Bharath holds an MSc in Clinical Trials from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and a PhD from the University of Amsterdam. His research has been published in leading journals including The New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, The BMJ, and journals within the Lancet group, as well as top-tier critical care and global health journals.
He is deeply committed to advancing research capacity among early-career clinicians. He regularly teaches research methods and evidence-based medicine through workshops and mentorship initiatives. He co-hosts CRITKNOW, an academic podcast that critically appraises emerging evidence in critical care, and writes a blog dedicated to simplifying complex methodological concepts for clinicians and researchers.
